Whether I’m dancing, writing, drawing, or painting, an artist I must be

Our entire life is a cascading sequence of evolutionary processes. Each phase produces a different person than the one before it.
My newest phase is acrylic pouring, and it is exciting. For more than half a century, I have been drawing abstract cartoons. My drawings have always been unique, fun, and a little weird, but lately I’ve fallen in love with a new medium: acrylic pouring, also known as “Fluid Art.”

Each painting is a new adventure into the unknown because, with acrylic pouring, it is hard to predict what it will do. More often than not, it surprises you and turns out even more beautiful and mysterious than you could have imagined.
There are times when you can manipulate the piece more and create something specific, something you intentionally want. One of my favorite paintings I did recently is the Tree of Knowledge.

I began by pouring and stretching the paint, then primarily using a palette knife, I crafted the tree and the rest of the scene you see. The soft neutral tones fit into any room or office, I think.
The hard part is affording the learning period we all go through while practicing. Good paint, canvas, and pouring mediums aren’t cheap, but they produce great results.
If you are serious about being an artist, then buy the paint that will give the best results and make people wish to own one of your masterpieces.

This is a recent beauty that began as an experiment. When I finished, I was in awe. Those eyes, unintentional as they were, were staring back at me. All I could see was a baby dragon coming into the world in all its glory.

A few weeks ago, I submitted a few of my paintings to an art show being held here in Reno.
I’m tickled to say that I have been accepted into the 2026 Reno Tahoe International Art Show this September at the Reno Sparks Convention Center.
I am in the “Heart of Reno” category and can hardly wait. This will be my first exhibition, and it is a big one. The event is a 3-dayer — Sept 17–20.
